Road Map to your Fitness Goal

Fitness Goals are different for everyone, but one thing's for certain; you need a roadmap of how you can get from where you are to where you want to be.  Being the organizational Virgo that I am, here are 4 tips to get you to your goals as quickly as possible.

1) Smaller Goals Vs. The Ultimate Goal

So you've got your Ultimate Goal in mind.  Awesome!  Now how the heck do we get there?  Break it down into smaller goals so that what you're about to accomplish doesn't seem so daunting.  For instance, shoot for losing 1-2 lbs a week, or running 5 minutes longer each time.  Knowing each week that you have accomplished some small part of what you're trying to do will help keep things in perspective, and will keep you motivated.

2) Track your Progress

What's your starting point? Start writing down the weights you're lifting, or the exercises you've been working on with your trainer.   In a few months, you might have a day when you feel like you've worked so hard for nothing, but tracking your progress will be proof that you're kicking gluteus maximus.

3) Plan Ahead

We all run into bumps on the road.  Maybe your training schedule needs an extra week in case you get sick; maybe you work next to a bunch of fast food chains and need to pack your lunch; maybe your family is visiting this weekend so you get an extra A.M. workout in.  Life gets in the way, but if you plan ahead, you'll be less likely to lose too much ground.

4) Be Realistic

Being realistic doesn't mean "don't push yourself".  It means that Fitness, like everything else in life, is going to have setbacks and challenges for your to overcome.  So choose a goal that you actually WANT to achieve, pick yourself up and start over if you've had a lousy day (or week), and remind yourself that as long as you are putting out your best effort, that's all you can ask of yourself.
